![]() Small cracks can be cured with a glass repair kit. ![]() If a mirror has small cracks or scratches, it can be repaired. Typically, a mirror is made by coating a thin layer of aluminum or silver on the back of a piece of smooth glass. Resilvering your mirror is the only way to remove black edges you have to use chemicals to strip the mirror of its backing and then follow an extensive process in order to resilver it. If your mirror is scratched, look carefully to see if the scratch is in the glass or the silver. In fact, the bright new silver could make these defects more noticeable. It will not fix any scratches, chips or cracks. Re-silvering a mirror does not affect the glass itself. At the very low end, it can be done for $49, and at the high end, it can cost as much as $500. ![]() It costs an average of $214 to repair or resilver a mirror, with a typical range of between $107 and $340. ![]()
